After the list of shortages of daily essentials raise up day by day, people who suffered by the present crises started to come to the streets to protest against the economic failure caused by the present government and the struggles which had severely affected daily lives.
People are standing in long queues for fuel. Vehicles are parked for kilometers Infront of the filling stations. There is an ongoing powercut for 7 and a half hours across the country due to the fuel shortage. In the other side of the street people are standing in queues for LP gas. Constructions are halted due to lack of imported cement. Parents, specially mothers suffering without Milk powder to feed their children.
After all these and more, annoyed people of sri lanka have begun to descend to the streets. Nearly 100 people gathered on the streets of Kohuwala, outskirt of capital colombo, yesterday to mark a silent protest against the economic failure caused by the present government and the struggles which had severely affected daily lives. Protestors gathered with candles and lamps, and held slogans calling on politicians to stop playing with people’s lives.
Another group of people gathered on the streets of Rajagiriya last evening and held a protest against the government’s failures to address the public issues which had severely affected daily lives. The protesters were seen carrying several placards which included “country is suffering, we need good governance, 225 (Parliamentarians) go home, stop robbing our country, reduce cost of living and shortage of gas”.
A protest was took place outside President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence in Mirihana yesterday.by the Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya, women’s wing of the opposition party, led by Hirunika premachandra.
The Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya staged a protest with regard to the rising cost of living and calling for solutions to a number of issues including power cuts and shortage of essential goods.
The protest commenced yesterday afternoon near Mirihana Junction and later the group went near the President’s house to hand over a letter.
