Katalin Novak was elected as the new president of Hungary

Katalin Novak, who received 137 votes in the voting held in the Hungarian National Assembly, was elected president for a 5-year term.

In the 199-seat Parliament, in which 195 deputies participated and 188 valid votes were cast, the candidate of the Fidesz-KDNP in the government, former Family Minister Katalin Novak, was elected president with 137 votes.

Peter Rona, the joint candidate of the opposition parties, received 51 votes.

Novak, the first female president elected in the country, will take over the seat on May 10 from Janos Ader, who served two terms as president.
