Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has promised China’s support for Sri Lanka to bring more stability to the economy and social development.
The Prime Minister’s Media Unit has confirmed that the matter was reported to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa through a telephone call today (22).
“China is aware of the difficulties and challenges you face for Sri Lanka and we want to do our best to help improve the livelihoods of the people in your country,” Li told Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Chinese Prime Minister also assured Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa that China would work with the Sri Lankan government to resolve some of the urgent financial problems currently facing Sri Lanka.
In addition, there is the potential for rapid monitoring negotiations for a free trade agreement, reducing Sri Lanka’s trade deficit with China and attracting more Chinese tourists when the situation allows.
“We will continue to work together to enhance the friendship and relationship between our two countries, and we recognize the difficulties you face at this time, and we will work together to address the difficulties,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rajapaksa thanked the Chinese Government for its recently announced humanitarian assistance and continued support and cooperation.
