Police said he was injured when a stone was hurled at senior deputy police chief Deshabandu Tennakoon in Perahera Mawatha.
The army immediately rescued the police chief and admitted him to the police hospital.
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Deshabandu Tennakoon, has been attacked by demonstrators in the area near Gangarama, Colombo and smashed and attacked Tennakoon’s vehicle.
