After taking over as Prime Minister, the BBC reports that the Sri Lanka economy will get worse before it gets better. This was stated by Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe while participating in a discussion with the World Service.
He has also said that although the protesters have asked President Gotabaya Rajapaksha to step down, it will not happen.
He has stated that one of his goals is to ensure three meals a day for families in Sri Lanka and that he is working to find food by appealing to the world for financial assistance and that hunger will not be a crisis.
He agrees with the protesters’ demand that President Rajapaksha resign, but says it will not happen. “Blaming does not lead to action. I came here to feed people,” he said.
