The Writ application filed with the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka seeking an order to invalidate the preparations being made for the Local Government Election will be taken up for consideration on the 23rd of February 2023.
When the case was taken up today, Retired Colonel W.M. Wijesundera who filed the case, via his lawyers informed the Supreme Court that it is not necessary to support the motion requesting to expedite the petition to postpone the 09th March LG elections.
The attorney further pointed out that they took steps to file a motion requesting the case to be called before February 23, since the postal voting was scheduled to be held on March 22.
The writ petition had been filed by the retired Army Colonel, seeking an order postponing the upcoming LG elections in view of the current economic crisis in the country.
