Cabinet nod to establish solar power plant in Sampur

The Cabinet has approved to build a solar power plant in Sampur, Trincomalee through a joint venture of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) of India.

The project will be implemented in two phases, totaling 135 MW. Under the initial phase, a 50 MW solar power project, is to be constructed with a $42.5 million investment, along with a 220 kW transmission line from Sampur to Kappalthure costing $23.6 million. The first phase will be completed from 2024 to 2025. The second phase will add an 85 MW capacity with an investment of $72 million.
