Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that Vladimir Putin may visit Turkey on April 27 for the official opening of the nation’s first nuclear power plant, which was constructed in partnership with Rosatom, the state-run nuclear energy company of Russia.

On April 27, Mr. Putin might visit Turkey for the inauguration event. Erdogan said on Wednesday in live remarks on Turkish broadcasters A Haber and ATV, “Or we might watch the ceremony online. We’ll hopefully start by taking the first action.

The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, according to Erdogan, is one of Turkey’s “indispensable investments,” and it will enable the nation to “seriously store energy,” he added.

The nation’s first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu, is presently being built in the southern province of Mersin.

The first reactor at Akkuyu is expected to start up in 2023, and the full plant should be operational by 2025. An intergovernmental agreement between Turkey and Russia from 2010 marked the start of the initiative.

Later this year, the plant, which is anticipated to have four reactors and an installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts, is scheduled to start generating electricity.
