The decision to send an order from the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka to the Parliamentary Committee on Ethics and Privileges has been denounced by the BAR Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
According to reports, the Parliamentary Committee on Ethics and Privileges has been notified of the Supreme Court’s ruling pushing authorities to disburse funding for the local government elections.
The Supreme Court order has not violated the Parliament’s rights or privileges, according to a statement from the BASL.
The Supreme Court should not be asked to explain judicial orders to any other people or entities because it is an independent institution, according to the BASL.
BASL further cautioned that any intervention with the legal system creates a risky precedent.
