With effect from March 26, a special gazette notification has been released extending Inspector-General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne’s term for three months.
Saman Ekanayake, the president’s secretary, released the statement on Thursday. (April 06).
In accordance with Articles 41(C)(1) and 61(E)(b) of the Constitution, President Ranil Wickremesinghe extended the police chief’s term of office.
The President’s request to re-appoint Wickramaratne as the IGP for another three months received approval from the Constitutional Council on April 1 under the chairmanship of the Speaker of Parliament.
