The recent increase of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories, notably the occurrences at the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the fasting month of Ramadan, has alarmed the Sri Lankan government.
Due to the deteriorating humanitarian situation, Sri Lanka urged all parties involved to “exercise restraint, maintain calm, and take sustained measures.”
The Foreign Affairs Ministry reiterated in a statement Sri Lanka’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s right to statehood in accordance with the UN Charter and the pertinent UN resolutions.
Sri Lanka is still committed to supporting a negotiated agreement that would see two governments coexist side by side based on the borders of 1967, as this is essential to establishing long-term security, peace, and prosperity.
