The Department of Railways’ unused obsolete machine components and irons would be sold through international tenders, according to Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardene.

Speaking in front of the legislature today (April 25), the Minister noted that only a small number of regional businesses have shared these old iron components at a very low cost thus far; as a result, this new mechanism will be used moving forward to end that practice.

Additionally, he said that the claims made by some parties regarding the imported railroad cars are untrue and that they will look into the details and report their findings to the Parliament in the near future.

The General Manager of Railways has been instructed to prepare the report in that regard, the Minister further emphasized.
