According to the State Trading Corporation (STC), a variety of problems have arisen since the freshly arrived shipment of eggs cannot be cleared from the port without the necessary credentials.

After examining the egg samples obtained on Saturday (April 22), the Department of Animal Production & Health was supposed to provide the clearance certificates.

STC Chairman Asiri claimed that as a result, the imported eggs could not have been properly dispersed among the bakers as intended.

On April 19, the fifth shipment of eggs from India arrived on the island. The samples have already been given to the Animal Production & Health Department, claims Walisundara.

Despite the fact that the results on the samples were supposed to be obtained on Monday (April 24), Walisundara said, “the department has informed us that the reports can only be released this Friday.”

Sri Lanka has ordered another batch of approximately 5 million eggs from India in the interim.
