The Additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Department and a senior state attorney have been targeted by two injunctions that the Colombo District Court has granted against social media activist Dharshana Handungoda.
Following assessment of a complaint submitted by three members of the Attorney General’s Department, including the Additional Solicitor General, Colombo District Magistrate Poornima Paranagame issued the order.
The justice issued the order, stating that the two restraining orders are valid until May 10, 2023.
The decision forbids the dissemination of incorrect information about the lawsuit filed in connection with the compensation for the X-Press Pearl tragedy, a subject that is frequently discussed on social media.
The plaintiffs’ attorney informed the court that the accused had broadcast a video on April 20, 2023, that contained misleading information about the case, greatly inconveniencing his clients.
The court also asked for compensation in the amounts of Rs. 1 billion and Rs. 500 million for the two harmed parties.
