If the Department of Animal Production & Health approves the sale, the imported eggs, according to the State Trade Corporation (STC), may be sold to the general public.

Speaking on the subject, STC Chairman Asiri Walisundara stated that the department has already issued an official request.

In an effort to rein in the skyrocketing prices in the local market, the Sri Lankan government chose to import eggs from India.

However, only bakeries and restaurants situated in the Western Province are given access to imported eggs.

A further shipment of eggs from India arrived on the island Friday night.
