According to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, it is not only the duty of emerging nations like Sri Lanka to lessen global climate change.

He highlighted that industrialized nations, which are the main sources of environmental pollution, should also support the cause financially.

The Presidential Environment Awards 2021–2022 ceremony was conducted on Friday (April 28) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. Wickremesinghe addressed the event.

He continued by saying that Sri Lanka intended to take the initiative in ensuring that the developing economies get the funding they needed to combat climate change.
