The Covid-19 vaccination mandate for visitors to the United States and for all federal employees nationwide will stop on May 11, according to the White House.
“Today, we are announcing that the administration will end the Covid-19 vaccine requirements for federal employees, federal contractors, and international air travelers at the end of the day on May 11, the same day that the Covid-19 public health emergency ends,” reads a statement.
Covid-19 caused more over a million fatalities in the US.
The government has now lifted limitations that date back to when the disease was wreaking havoc on entire communities and imposing catastrophic economic shutdowns, according to the White House, which highlighted that the pandemic had all but been contained.
“Since January 2021, hospitalizations have decreased by about 91 percent and Covid-19 fatalities have decreased by 95 percent. According to the announcement, worldwide Covid-19 mortality rates are at their lowest points since the pandemic’s beginning.
The White House claims that “our widespread vaccination campaign has saved millions of lives” and that “vaccine requirements bolstered vaccination across the nation.”
The domestic government’s vaccine requirements caused a sometimes ferocious political response at home, although mirroring the practice of many other countries, which required documentation of a Covid vaccination for foreigners boarding flights destined for the US.
Along with removing the vaccine restrictions, President Joe Biden declared the national health emergency that had supported a number of exceptional government actions for more than three years to be over in April.
These included generous funding for nationwide free Covid testing and vaccinations.
