Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, staged a large rally in Istanbul on Sunday with at least 1.7 million people in attendance, according to official estimates, less than a week before the country’s presidential and legislative elections.

Erdogan praised the large rally audience and outlined the accomplishments of his administration over the previous 21 years.

The Turkish president mentioned that his nation’s income has tripled over the previous 20 years as one of them.

“We have added 21 million people to our population in 21 years, and we have given them employment and food. In 21 years, we constructed 10.5 million new homes, giving families a place to live, according to Erdogan.

He criticized the Turkish opposition for its negative language on domestic drone production and combat drones and promised to further develop the nation’s defense industry.

Regarding energy, Erdogan recalled the natural gas and oil deposits worth billions of dollars that have been made available to the Turkish people in the southern Gabar region of Turkey and the Black Sea.

Additionally, Erdogan stated that his administration is putting into action the “Great Istanbul Tunnel Project,” which he claimed “will be the third tube to run through beneath the Sea of Marmara.”

“We are preparing Istanbul for the Century of Türkiye, and Istanbul will be the locomotive for the rise of the Century of Türkiye,” he continued.

On May 14, Turkey will hold its elections.

Voters will be able to select between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is running for reelection, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Muharrem Ince, and Sinan Ogan on the presidential ballot.
