The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has sent the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) a proposal for the electricity pricing modification that will take effect on July 1st.

In accordance with the Government Policy and Cabinet decisions made in 2022 about the tariff filling requirements, which call for biennial adjustments of the tariffs in January and July, the proposal was filed yesterday afternoon (15 May).

Accordingly, in an effort to implement a cost-reflective price mechanism, energy prices are scheduled to be updated on January 1 and July 1 of each year.

Taking to Twitter to address the issue, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera assured followers that the CEB had taken into account a number of variables, including actual generation data, input costs, generation mix, and forecasts for 2023, in order to maximize the benefits of the adjustment for low-consumption users.
