In order to perform coordinated search and rescue operations to help a Chinese fishing vessel that had capsized in the middle of the Indian Ocean, China has asked Sri Lanka’s assistance along with that of a number of other nations.
The distant-water fishing boat “Lupeng Yuanyu 028” belonged to Penglai Jinglu Fishery Co Ltd, a Shandong province-based company, according to a report published on Wednesday by the Chinese State Media.
Chinese channel CCTV claimed that the ship collapsed on Tuesday at around 3 a.m. Beijing time, according to accounts in other media.
The crew, which included 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesian, and 5 Filipino sailors, was further reported missing by state television CCTV.
President Xi Jinping had commanded a search and rescue mission, but official media CCTV reported that “so far, no missing persons have been found.”
