Following his return to Sri Lanka, Pastor Jerome Fernando, the leader of a religious group, will be detained, according to police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa.
SSP Thalduwa stated that the pastor is rumored to have fled the country and that upon his return, he will be jailed for his recent, contentious utterances towards Buddhism.
Yesterday, the Fort Magistrate’s Court issued a travel ban to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against Pastor Jerome Fernando.
On Sunday, May 14, 2023, it was discovered that the pastor had departed the nation.
Recently, in front of a large crowd, Pastor Fernando is alleged to have made disparaging remarks about Lord Buddha, Islam, and Hinduism.
His comments were captured on video, which infuriated the nation’s Buddhist population.
Additionally, the Archdiocese of Colombo made it clear yesterday that Pastor Jerome Fernando was neither a priest of the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka nor affiliated with it.
