The distribution of fuel and petroleum products, the provision of electricity and other connected services, and the provision of health services have all been reclassified as essential services.
On Wednesday, May 17, Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake carried out the president’s instructions and published a special gazette notification announcing this.
According to the President’s authority granted by Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act No. 61 of 1979, it was published.
President Wickremesinghe has already made several declarations stating that these services were important, with dates of 03 August 2022, 03 September 2022, 04 October 2022, 03 January 2023, and 17 February 2023.
