Chinese visitors to Sri Lanka are advised to follow all local rules and regulations by the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.

The Chinese Embassy stated on Twitter that “all Chinese citizens who come to Sri Lanka for business, work, study, or tourism should strictly abide by Sri Lankan laws and regulations, as well as respect local religious and cultural customs.”

The warning follows recent reports that a Chinese individual sought to enter Sri Lanka using a fake passport.

The Chinese Embassy commented on the situation and stated that the case was being looked into.

Last week (17), a Chinese individual who attempted to enter Sri Lanka using a fake passport was caught. Along with an Egyptian and another Chinese national, the guy had landed in Sri Lanka.

The Chinese individual is claimed to have behaved erratically when his fake passport was discovered, which caused Immigration and Emigration officers at the Katunayake Airport to hold him.

Arundika Fernando, the state minister for urban development and housing, who had asserted that the Chinese individual in issue was a foreign investor, ordered the group’s release.

According to reports, the State Minister requested in writing that the Chinese traveler be permitted entry, indicating that the man had traveled to Sri Lanka to invest in housing projects that fall within the scope of his ministry.

Tiran Alles, the minister of public security, addressed the issue recently and informed the media that the government will take action against the Chinese national and that any further measures would be decided after consulting with the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.

Tiran Alles, the minister of public security, yesterday instructed representatives of the Department of Immigration and Emigration to deport the Chinese national after conducting the appropriate investigations.
