This morning in Parliament, a discussion on the legislative resolution to oust Janaka Ratnayake from his position as the head of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) got under way.

The Committee on Parliamentary Business, which is led by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, set the date for the parliamentary debate, which will take place today from 10.30 am to 5:00 pm.

In accordance with Section 7 of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act, a resolution in the parliament is made against Janaka Ratnayake.

The discussion follows a number of disagreements between Ratnayake and Kanchana Wijesekera, minister of power and energy, about a range of issues, including adjustments to electricity tariffs and the length of power outages.
