The Director General of Sri Lanka Customs has been directed by Presidential Secretariat Saman Ekanayake to take all necessary steps to install advanced scanning equipment at the VIP passenger terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.
On the directives of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ekanayake issued the pertinent directive in an effort to stop illicit products from being trafficked into the nation through the VIP terminal.
Customs authorities went on to say that even though the VIP terminal does not have any scanning equipment or checks, the other terminals at BIA do.
As a result, many luggage pass through the aforementioned terminal undetected, giving illegal products an easy route into the nation, according to them.
