First floating solar project agreement signed : Locations revealed

According to Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, an agreement was reached today between the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) and the Ministry of Power and Energy on the creation of Sri Lanka’s first floating solar development project.

The Minister announced on Twitter that KIAT has given the Sustainable Energy Authority a USD 5.2 million grant to help them create two floating solar projects with a combined 1 MW.

He added that the projects, which will be developed by the Korean Engineering Company, will be on Kiri Ibban Wewa in the UVA Province and Chandrika Wewa in the Sabaragamuwa Province.

By December 2024, according to Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, the project is expected to be finished.
