According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation, Sri Lanka intends to begin operating direct flights between Colombo and Istanbul in Turkey.
According to the ministry, Demet Sekercioglu, the Turkish ambassador to Sri Lanka, and Nimal Siripala de Silva, the minister of ports, shipping, and aviation, had a special conversation on Tuesday to discuss getting permission to start direct flights between Colombo and Istanbul.
“Currently, Turkish Airlines connects with Sri Lanka through a route that includes a stopover in the Maldives, resulting in an additional travel time of one and a half hours. The delay caused by this routing is not favored by travelers, as emphasized by the ambassador,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the new service will not only help passengers from Europe but also persuade them to visit Sri Lanka.
The impending steps, according to the minister, would greatly boost Sri Lanka’s tourist sector while also promoting closer economic and cultural relations between the two nations.
