Myanmar vows to help Sri Lanka tackle illegal migration, human trafficking

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs of Myanmar, Lieutenant General Soe Htut, and Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Myanmar, Janaka Bandara, recently met at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

The Sri Lankan ambassador thanked the Deputy Prime Minister and the Myanmar government during the meeting for their assistance and support in the recent repatriation of numerous Sri Lankans who had been trapped in Myanmar as the result of human trafficking.

The ambassador also asked Sri Lanka and Myanmar’s governments to work closely together to solve the problems of unauthorized immigration and human trafficking.

The Deputy Prime Minister gave the Ambassador assurances that Myanmar will assist and cooperate in the fight against illegal immigration and human trafficking.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Ambassador also spoke about a number of topics including cybercrimes, money laundering, and human trafficking, as well as the possibility of increasing bilateral collaboration in the fight against these problems.

Maj-Gen Aung Aung, the deputy chief of police, and several top representatives from the Myanmar Ministry of Home Affairs were present at the meeting.
