In order to pressure the authorities to hasten the Provincial Council (PC) elections, the National People’s Power (NPP) plans to conduct a series of rallies starting today (June 8).

The first protest march would begin in front of the Election Secretariat facilities in Rajagiriya, according to former JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, however, issued an order against 26 people in total on Wednesday (June 7), including NPP leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
