Fuel station dealers who have broken the terms of their contracts must be investigated and any required legal action must be taken, according to instructions given to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).

The decision was made, according to Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera, yesterday during a progress review meeting with representatives of the CPC and the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL).

Only 432 of the 1050 fuel stations run by the CPC kept the required amount of stock on all items last week, it was discovered.

The minister said that 363 dealers maintained minimum stock for one product, compared to 255 dealers who failed to do so for any number of products.

According to Minister Wijesekera, the CPC was given the go-ahead to pursue legal action against those who had broken their promises.

He added that the CPC’s balance sheet restructuring, payments to transport bowsers, distribution of the National Fuel Pass QR, the island-wide fuel supply plan, and the CPSTL’s infrastructure development plan had all been reviewed and discussed.
