Manusha Nanayakkara, minister of labor and foreign employment, has called for measures affecting the female workforce in order to close the gender wage gap.
Minister Nanayakkara announced on Twitter that women make up about 33% of the workforce in Sri Lanka.
Regarding the gender gap, he noted that Sri Lanka is ranked 20th in the world.
According to the minister, the present debate on labor law amendments is focused on enhancing female involvement by eliminating midnight limits and offering part-time and flexible jobs.
Manusha Nanayakkar, the minister, adding that a certain percentage of positions that are typically held by men must be reserved for women.
Sri Lanka’s labor laws are now being revised by the ministry of labor.
On June 14, the National Labour Advisory Council is anticipated to receive a summary of the suggestions for a new unified system of labor law that have been submitted thus far.
