Russia’s Rosatom to build nuclear plant in SL

According to the Sri Lankan envoy to Russia, Sri Lanka and Rosatom have agreed to develop a nuclear power station that might have two reactors and produce 300 megawatts of energy.

“We’re going to proceed with a nuclear power plant… In fact, options exist. On the fringes of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage told Sputnik that there were two sources producing 300 megawatts.

The ambassador asserted that the island nation in the Indian Ocean could end its energy crisis if it had a power plant. The government would speed up the permissions process so that construction could begin quickly.

The Sri Lankan cabinet has granted its approval for the procedures to be followed, and there is a proposal. The International Atomic Energy Agency has formed specialized working groups to look at it. According to her, Rosatom has set up four working groups in four distinct industries.
