Dilshan Madushanka, a left-arm fast bowler, Dunith Wellalage, a left-arm spinner, and all-arounder Sahan Arachchige are three players from Sri Lanka who have been sent as ‘options’ to the squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.
All three players competed for Sri Lanka ‘A’ against South Africa ‘A’ in an unofficial three-match ODI series that South Africa won 2-1.
Madushanka achieved outstanding results for Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the limited overs series, and he also had wickets in the ensuing inaugural unofficial Test.
Wellalage, who has four wickets against South Africa ‘A in three unofficial ODIs, would provide Sri Lanka the option of a leg-arm spinner, something it lacks in its present lineup.
Arachchige, on the other hand, could offer some firepower to the batting and finished as Sri Lanka ‘A”s second-highest run scorer in the unofficial ODI series.
These players will stay on standby since Sri Lanka cannot add or change players in their squad for the qualifications because it is an ICC-organized event unless there is an injury and a request is reviewed by a Technical Committee.
