In an effort to prevent the spread of the dengue virus, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has asked Western Province pupils attending schools to wear light-colored apparel in addition to their uniforms.
The request was made in light of the recent rise in dengue cases among pupils in the province, according to the director of the NDCU, Dr. Nalin Ariyarathne.
According to data gathered by the NDCU, “We have submitted a proposal requesting that students in the Western Province be permitted to wear light-colored clothing in addition to their uniforms that can protect them from both dengue mosquitoes and extreme heat”, Ariyaratne said, adding that the Provincial Governor’s, Chief Secretary’s, and Education Secretary’s approval has already been received.
