On Tuesday evening (June 20), the Sri Lankan Navy detained nine Indian fishermen and a poaching trawler off the coast of Jaffna’s Delft Island.

The trawler with 09 Indian fishermen aboard was intercepted following a special search operation conducted by Northern Naval Command’s SLNS Wasaba in the Urimunai water area south of Delft Island.

The poaching trawler, which was off Delft Island in Sri Lankan waters, reportedly suffered a technical breakdown that let sea water to flow into its engine.

The Navy said that the impounded poaching trawler and nine Indian fishermen had been delivered to the Delft Police for further legal actions.
