A corporation and two stores that sold eggs above the government-set restricted price have been fined by the Matara Magistrate’s Court.

As a result, the relevant company has been penalized Rs. 500,000, while the two other shops have each been fined Rs. 100,000.

Following repeated searches conducted by agents of the Consumer Affairs Authority’s Matara District office, the two stores as well as the company became the subject of legal action by the CAA.

Meanwhile, the CAA reported that ongoing raids are being conducted to find sellers selling eggs for more than the government-declared restricted price.
