According to the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), the Indian energy company Petronet LNG has offered short-term options, according to Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera.

Wijesekera reported on Twitter that Petronet LNG offered quick, albeit temporary, answers to CEB’s LNG needs this morning (June 22).

The Minister stated that although a long-term LNG plan is being finalized, alternatives for short-term solutions to lower the cost of generating from the 600+ MW of LNG power plants available in the next 24 months will be pursued.

Wijesekera thanked the Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay for his efforts in this area and for setting up the discussion, which was attended by representatives of the Ministry, Petronet LNG, the CEB, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka (IHSL), and Petronet LNG.
