More than 16 kilograms of heroin were seized by Sri Lanka Customs after it was discovered hidden in a supply of potatoes kept in a container that had come from Karachi, Pakistan.
Following an inspection of the aforementioned refrigerated container based on intelligence data acquired by Sri Lanka Customs’ port control unit, about 16 kg and 193 g of heroin were discovered hidden within.
Around Rs. 647,720,00 is the estimated street worth of the heroin haul.
According to customs, three further individuals have also been detained in connection with the drugs seized.
The suspects who were arrested and the heroin haul would be given to the Police Narcotics Control Unit after further investigations are completed by Sri Lanka Customs.
