The appointment of Professor Manjula Fernando to the position of Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has received confirmation from the National Constitutional Council.
As a result, Professor Manjula Fernando began serving as the Chairman of Sri Lanka’s Public Utilities Commission today, June 23.
He takes over for previous PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratanayake, who lost his job in May after a proposal was discussed and approved in Parliament.
In accordance with Section 7 of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act, a motion in the parliament was filed against Janaka Ratnayake.
Ratnayake and Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera had a number of disagreements before the debate that covered a range of topics, including the length of power outages and modifications to electricity tariffs.
