To safeguard the deer population in Trincomalee, a campaign has been started by the Eastern Province Tourism Bureau.
A deer survey was started in Trincomalee City on Saturday (24), according to a statement from the Eastern Province Governor’s Office.
The Eastern Province Tourism Bureau, the Divisional Secretariat of Town & Gravats, and the Urban Council of Trincomalee jointly began the program to conduct a deer population study in Trincomalee City.
Participants in this program were the Governor of the Eastern Province, Senthil Thondaman, the Chairman of the Eastern Province Tourism Bureau, the Divisional Secretary, the Secretary of the Urban Council, and Volunteers from a number of organizations.
Governor Senthil Thondaman commented on the broadcast and stated that an anatomical investigation revealed that more than 20 deer died in Trincomalee as a result of ingesting plastic debris.
The Governor added that a committee has been established to look into the matters of deer safety and food, and that it is hoped that Trincomalee would soon have more deer.
