The creation of a gambling regulatory authority in Sri Lanka has received approval from the Cabinet of Ministers, the government announced in a statement.

As a result, the legal draftsman will be given instructions to create a Bill to govern gambling activities.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal put out by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in this regard during their meeting on Monday, June 26.

The government claims that it wants to limit the detrimental effects of gambling on society and people, prevent illicit gaming activity, and correctly collect taxes from gaming enterprises through the establishment of a casino regulatory authority.
