Today (June 27), Speaker of the House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana gave his approval to the certificate for the Parliamentary Budget Office Bill, which was discussed and approved last week.
The budget office was created with the intention of assisting the parliament, which has the authority to oversee public finances, in carrying out its duties regarding public finances by providing an independent, unbiased economic and financial analysis and vision on income and expenditure, as well as supporting a particular recognized political party and a particular independent group.
The Speaker also gave his seal of approval to the Civil Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, which was just enacted.
The Code of Civil Procedure (Amendment) Act No. 7 of 2023 and the Parliamentary Budget Office Act No. 6 of 2023, respectively, would go into effect as a result.
