New Air Force commander appointed

The position of Air Force Commander has been given to Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa.

At the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (28), Mr. Saman Ekanayake, the President’s Secretary, gave AVM Rajapaksa the letter of appointment.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has elevated Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa to the rank of Air Marshal, effective as of tomorrow, December 30. This promotion is in honor of Rajapaksa’s exemplary service and is in keeping with his new position as the Commander.

As the nation’s 19th Air Force Commander and the first graduate of Ananda College to hold the position, Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa proudly promotes his alma mater.

His career began in 1988 when he enrolled as a cadet at the Kotalawala Defence College. He later excelled in flying training at Anuradhapura Camp No. 01, earning the title of finest cadet in the 33rd Air Cadet Course.

He displayed exceptional performance as a flight officer by combining domestic and international training. He formerly served as the Chief of Staff, the second-highest command position in the Air Force, and will now fill the prestigious position of Air Force Commander.
