On Wednesday (June 28), UNICEF established the Business Council in strategic partnership with leading business executives and decision-makers to advance children’s rights and the nation’s sustainable development.
A collection of prominent figures from the commercial sector who are dedicated to promoting children’s rights and the welfare of children and young people in Sri Lanka have come together to form the Business Council. Instead of speaking on behalf of their organizations, the chosen business executives are present in the Business Council as individuals.
In the future, the Council Members will get together on a regular basis to talk about plans, projects, and potential areas of cooperation to better the situation for kids and teenagers. Innovative solutions and the production of shared value will be facilitated by their combined experience, leadership, and social responsibility.
“We are thrilled to launch the UNICEF Sri Lanka Business Council as a means to create a collaborative platform for business leaders and decision-makers”, said Christian Skoog, Representative, UNICEF Sri Lanka. “Through this Council, we aim to harness the power of the private sector to drive positive change and make a lasting impact on the lives of children in Sri Lanka.”
UNICEF is collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, including corporate executives, trade associations, and investors, and interacting with the private sector more frequently. UNICEF seeks to achieve scalability and sustainability while doing what we do best—putting children first—by incorporating children’s rights and sustainable development goals into current business models.
We mutually realize the need of working together to enhance the lives of children and ensure that their rights are respected, Ms. Kasturi Chellaraja Wilson, Group Chief Executive Officer of Hemas Holdings PLC, remarked during the launch on behalf of the Council Members. We are able to accomplish results at scale because to the UNICEF Business Council’s crucial platform for collaboration with other like-minded leaders and organizations.
