Govt. introduces new program to prevent drug shortages in future – Minister

According to Keheliya Rambukwella, minister of health, the government has put in place a scheme to guard against future drug shortages.

The Minister emphasizes that as a result, steps have been taken by the government to improve the effectiveness of the process for importing pharmaceuticals.

Rambukwella delivered these remarks during a press conference with the topic “Towards a stable country – All in one direction” that was held at the Presidential Media Center.

190 of the 800 different types of medicines used in Sri Lanka, according to Minister Rambukwella, are still missing from the Central Medicine Stores.

However, he added, “Only about 90 types of medicines are lacking in the hospitals, and the situation can still be managed.”

“I discussed the issue with the President and the Cabinet of Ministers several times. The minister stressed, “I intend to present a thorough assessment on the current situation to the Cabinet tomorrow.

He asserted, “I feel that we have made a number of initiatives to address the current scarcity of medicines.
