Due to the active southwest monsoon condition, strong gusts of approximately 50–60 kmph can be occasionally expected in some areas of the island, according to a weather advisory published this afternoon by the Meteorology Department.
Winds with gusts are therefore anticipated in the Northern, North-Western, and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, on the western slopes of the central highlands.
The Meteorology Department added that the current showery weather across the southwestern regions of the island is also anticipated to persist.
In the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces as well as the Galle and Matara districts, there will occasionally be showers. There are several locations in the Sabaragamuwa province, as well as Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, where moderately heavy showers of about 75 mm are predicted.
