A few days after Twitter’s executive chair Elon Musk put a temporary limit on the number of tweets users may read on the social media site, Meta Platforms (META.O) plans to release the microblogging software Threads.
A listing on Apple’s (AAPL.O) App Store revealed that Threads, Instagram’s text-based chat app, will launch on Thursday and allow users to follow the accounts they follow on the photo-sharing site and maintain the same username.
After Twitter announced a number of restrictions on the app, including the requirement to be verified in order to use TweetDeck, the software has now officially launched.
Twitter users have reacted angrily to Musk’s most recent announcements to address data scraping, and advertising experts have predicted that they will weaken new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who assumed her position last month.
When Reuters reached out to Meta for comment regarding a comparable launch on the Google Play Store, they did not react right away.
