According to the general office of the Lankan embassy in Jeddah, a Sri Lankan HAJJ pilgrim perished in a traffic accident on July 4 in Madinah.
According to Falah Hebshi Mowlana, general consul in Jeddah, Shihabdeen Haji, owner of Bismillah Travels, was killed. The ambassador stated, “He had an accident on Monday and passed away this morning in the hospital near the Madinah-Meeqat border.” He further noted that his remains were laying at the Meeqat hospital in Madinah while funeral arrangements were being made.
The late Shihabdeen attended Hameed Al Husseinie College in Colombo in the years 1988–1989 in the Sinhala medium from kindergarten to GCE Ordinary Level.
Those who pass away in Madinah will have the honor of being buried in the sacred grounds of Jannathul Baqee, where the remains of the holy prophet Muhammad’s supporters are interred.
Among the 3,500 Sri Lankan pilgrims who undertook the journey, this is the third death. A heart arrest earlier in life caused the death.
