Today (July 13), the Northern Line’s rebuilt section of railway track between Anuradhapura and Omanthai was formally opened to public travel, according to Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
The congressman pointed out the rebuilt railway tracks while viewing the air-conditioned luxury coaches that had been fitted for the 100kmph test run.
The railway line’s Anuradhapura-Omanthai section has been blocked since January while improvements have been ongoing. As a result, rail service between the two locations was temporarily stopped, and action was taken to give the general public with access to public transport by deploying passenger buses.
