Today (14), India is set to launch its Chandrayaan-3 mission.

According to reports, this will begin around 2.30 p.m. local time.

The Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, South Andhra Pradesh, is reportedly where this would begin.

India would become the fourth nation to send a spacecraft to the moon if this mission is successful.

Its objectives are to safely touch down on the lunar surface, gather information, and carry out a number of scientific investigations to learn more about the makeup of the moon.

Two spacecraft from India have already visited the moon.

Chandrayaan-1, the first of them, was launched in 2008 and collided with the moon’s surface after orbiting it.

Chandrayaan-2, the follow-up spacecraft, was launched in 2019 but also failed.

India will therefore deploy a spacecraft to the moon’s surface for the third time.
